Bachelor film released!

My bachelor group project "The Backwater Gospel" can now be seen online.

Sypnosis
As long as anyone can remember, the coming of the Undertaker has meant the coming of death. Until one day the grim promise fails and tension builds as the God fearing townsfolk of Backwater wait for someone to die.

The 11 Second Club

Last month I was lucky enough to get first place on "The 11 Second Club"
The animation was created using TVP where the task was to animate a dialogue taken from the movie "Requiem For A Dream"

You can find my entry here:

Animation Showreel and Portfolio

I put together an Animation Showreel/online portfolio for my 3 month internship after summer. It's going to be updated every now and then since it has a couple of scenes from "The Backwater Gospel" that will be replaced with newer ones (click image to enter)

Paw Charlie Ravn's short film

For the past 3 months I've been at Copenhagen animating on a 7 min Danish short directed by Paw Charlie Ravn at the The National Film School of Denmark.

Here's a preview of some of my animation scenes. (The colours and compositing are not finished in this video)

2D Animation. Self study

For 2 weeks now we had self study at school. I chose to try out some old school 2D animation again since it's been a while since I did it last time. First week was quite fun, 2nd week got boring after a while with all the days of cleanup work. But I'm glad I atleast managed to finish this in time. (click image to watch)

Early stuff (click image to watch):

Rough animation:

Touch up animation:

software:

Animation: PAP 4.0 (Wacom Cintiq)
Cleanup, colors, shadow masking: Macromedia Flash MX 2004
Background layout: Adobe Photoshop CS2

Bernard. Animation

Well, here's the last traditional animation you'll see from me in a looong time^_^
Next week this will be reviewed (this was our exam) and then it's summer vacation. After that the semester will be focused on 3D.

animation from this week:

I think it feels too fast in many places. Not enough room for settles and "thinking time" for the character. I originaly wanted the "tippy toe" walking to be more slow and "carefull" But it was to long to fit inside the 120 frame limit we were given.
Oh well, the timing could have been alot better but atleast it moves in a cool way =P ^_^

Here's an earlier version:

Finished digital 2d animation

This wasen't done at school, but since it's animation related I'll might as well post it here.
Ever since I've gotten the Cintiq I never got the chance to do a finished animation test. But here's one.

This is a group project where we got randomly chosen to work in pairs and create a 30 sec short film from scratch in four days. I did the characterdesign and she did the layout. Then we both animated on it together.

Dialogue animation

Here's our first dialogue animation assignment. We got to choose from 5 different clips and different modelsheets for each one.
Kinda almost done, but it's the end of the week. So no more updates on it probably ^_^

Modelsheet: Sawyer  (Cats  don't dance)
Sound Clip:  "Claire" (The breakfast club)

Bernard animation

Here's some animation from this week.
It's rushed, lots of bad drawings and the arcs and spacing could have been tighter as well.

Well, Friday is here, and it's the end of this exercise. On Monday will get a new animation task with Goofy.

I added breakdowns and some inbetweens. Still missing the ears and other extra clothing thingies.

On monday we got 1.5 days to do construction animation.
We're starting with a skeleton yawning with some musclegroups attached, later we take a new piece of paper on top cover the whole thing with flesh.
So the overall look of the finished fleshed out human character would look quite strange. But hey, atleast it was constructed from the inside out ^^

I guess it just has to be taken for granted not to end up with any fancy nice looking animation or apealing characterdesign doing this assignment.
We weren't alowed to do cartoony overexaggurated yawn either.

2.Skeleton and flesh on top. key frames.
I changed the parts of the fleshy character on top, so it doesn't follow the bones 100%

3. Flesh only. key frames, breakdowns and some inbetweens..

Here's my animation from this week (not really finished though)
Mostly just keys and breakdowns:

It would be great if I just got 1 more day to add in all the inbetweens to smooth out all the motion and easing stuff in and out.

On Monday, we had 2 hours to come up with a psynopsis for our story for the theme "circus", draw storyboard, charactersheet and modelsheet.
(it had to follow the Anticipation - action - reaction rule, and we had make a character with two feet)
On Tuesday we did all the thumbnail drawings and animated the storytelling poses.
And the following 3 days left we had to finish the actual animation. It was really hectic week but I had a really fun time as well^^

Personality Walk

The other assignment we got this week was to create our own personality walk on the Pink Panther model. Here's the rough animation. (key's and breakdowns only)
Animated on 3's

Here's the touch-up version. I also added two drawings between each key and breakdown so this one is on 1's

Here's a standard walk animation with the Pink Panther model. Didn't have much time to finetune the arcs and spacing here. It was my turn this week to take care of a test student who is going to be here for a week. She had never animated before so most of the time I spended learning the other test student.

So here it is:

Here's some rough animation we did on friday.
We're getting a new guest teacher next week where we're going to animate "the pink panther" so we used him as a model for these tests as well.
